Houston Texas isn’t where you expect to find real hip hop……..or is it? With legends like UGK, DJ Screw, and Scarface to the new age chopped n screwed sounds of Mike Jones, and Z-Ro its hard to say the H-town hasn’t been a cornerstone of hip hop. Though the originators of rap in Houston have paved the way for later success from other Houston artists but, there has yet to be a woman to stake her claim as queen of the H-town, they may have just that now. Nita Jonez “The Hiprockah” started writing music at the age of eight, growing up in a single parent home her mother kept her actively involved in beauty pageants, and she took jazz lessons. Nita Jonez attended Florida Memorial University where she participated in various sports and joined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. While in Miami Nita Jonez recorded with a local act known as the Weightliftaz . Her time spent recording with the group was instrumental in her development as an artist. Nita Jonez had her first performance on the Northside of Houston at a club called “Stilettos” Jonez put on a good show to a fairly large crowd. Her second performance was even better than her first as she went on to win first place among 20 other contestants at the Houston Jewish Community Center. As she grows as an artist so does her performance. Nita Jonez is currently working on her second mix-tape release which is set to drop November, 2014. “I want people to remember me and hear REAL music. That's why I speak from the heart and let the realness be known! When someone listens to my music or hears my voice... I want them to beable to relate to my experiences. No one is perfect as I do want to leave a good taste in people’s mouth lol! I want people to understand that it's ok to be yourself and live life to the fullest!” With the rising popularity of female emcees this could be the year for “Nita Jonez.”
