“Music that will take you on a journey through the struggle while helping you overcome it.” The guys are currently gearing up for the release of their self-titled debut mixtape, “Genesis.” The project has an up-tempo, 90s feel to it and focuses around the message that you should never give up on your dreams. The mixtape heavily discusses the struggles and social challenges both members faced and overcame through music. “We both come from a lot of negativity and poverty, but what we like to do is give a different perspective on it, by putting more of a motivational message behind it. For example, our song “Picture Perfect” shows a brighter side to coming from nothing but determined to have a greater outcome than the moment shows, whereas “Can’t Help It”, is more of a gritty Motivational song that has more of a street anthem sound to it,” says Twist. Their first single off of the project is called“Everyday” and it’s an embodiment of the true Genesis sound. It’s a deep song that ignites the flame inside you to work hard towards your goals no matter the situation your in while also making you want to dance. Expect Genesis to be released Winter 2015. The group “Genesis” consists of two solo artists out of Illinois but are based out of Twin Cities Minnesota, Lyrical Calage (pronounced collage), age 24 and Twistbethename, age 25. They formed the group about five years ago. “We would always work together and create songs because we knew each other from school. Eventually one song became two, two became a project…we wrote over thirty songs for the project. We eventually found an amazing producer “Casey Golden” of GoodLook Studios in Minneapolis that heard our potential and seen the vision we saw. I knew I wanted music to be my career very young. I think I was like nine or something maybe younger. I remember just listening to rap music and really looking up to certain artist that I felt just really stood for something and people listened to them. It didn’t matter who you were or where you were from, if you were real, and you could spit, you were dope! I remember how music in general made me feel and I just always knew I wanted that kind of platform.” explains LC. “Funny thing is, I’ve known for a couple years I wanted music to be my Career, but I didn’t realize what it was going to take and how I would answer that question up until Mid 2015, when I explained this to my fiancé and she flipped Ape Shit!!(we are good now and she supports the dream). I realized that working my 9-5 for Corporate America is not what I was destined for. Sometimes in Life, more than not, I’ve realized that as an individual in America, we get sidetracked by money. Now that can be a good thing, and also bad thing. But in order for me to actually get to where I want to go, my focus has to be on strictly my music, otherwise I will be, in a sense, limited.” – Twist Leading up to the release of their mixtape, Genesis has been performing at different venues throughout the twin cities and the south, including the 150th Minneapolis Juneteenth Festival this year,2015 and the Coast to Coast convention in Miami.
